Dear JSC members:

It is our pleasure to announce the Players and Coaches of Character for the Fall 2007 season. We were thrilled to receive nearly 40 nominations from coaches, parents, players and friends. We want to thank everyone who took time to submit a nomination and believe this reflects the high quality membership that defines the Johnston Soccer Club.

It is our pleasure to name the following Players of Character!

Jackson Longnecker – U6 - “He is enthusiastic and treats his teammates with kindness and care. We can trust Jackson to play fair and be both courteous and fun! He promotes team spirit… and always does his best.”

Katherine McAllister – U8 -  “She has taught teammates to be respectful when they are not showing the pillars. I have never seen her with her with head down. Our season has been tough… She always stays very positive…. She is a coach’s player.”

Jamie Peterson – U10 - “Jamie displays exceptional pillars of character on and off the field. He always has a positive attitude, shows a great deal of respect. He is the first to point out that it doesn’t matter if we win or lose as long as we played the game together as a team and in a fair manner.”

Nick Collison – U11 - “Nick is the older brother of a player on my team… He now helps me teach the younger players about sportsmanship and fair play. Nick is a future coach in the making.”

Mackenzie Ellis – U15 - “She respects her teammates, coaches, referees, and the other team… She consistently demonstrates good sportsmanship by giving our team 100% every time she steps out on the pitch"

It is our pleasure to name the following Coaches of Character!

Robert “Bud” Peddicord – U8 -  “Coach Bud displays a fantastic representation of the six pillars of character in his ability to communicate with the kids. He knows how to engage the team and keep things positive and fun… His concern with the players does not end at the field. He has made numerous calls to check on our son to make sure he is OK and to check on his health after some injuries.”

“He shows genuine concern for his players. Taking time to make sure they understand what is going on in practice and making sure to explain things in ways that the kids could demonstrate. Each player is able to experience the game and find ways that they can contribute to the overall success of the team… I can’t think of a better role model for our kids.”

“He treats all players with respect, despite their wide differences in ability, concentration and temperament. … He stresses the importance of being a team player but also being a “good sport” as it relates to both successes and failure… He models great sportsmanship himself.”

Bill Jensen – U16 -  “Constructive criticism, yes, but presented in a positive manner. Under his leadership, this team has really come together. He does care about each player and how they feel about their game. Bill exemplifies the Six Pillars of Character.”

“Bill makes practices a learning experience while being fun. Our team has always been fair and shows a great deal of sportsmanship. I’m very proud.”

“I see Bill as someone who gets to know his players their abilities and how versatile they are. They know Bill puts trust in them to handle their positions… This team demonstrates respect and care of the other team and their players. They represent JSC well thanks to Bill.”
