| Q. |
Why does Johnston Soccer Club (JSC) use volunteers? |
| A. |
Johnston Soccer Club is a non-profit organization and depends heavily on
volunteers to keep costs down. In fact, volunteers allow the club to
keep fees lower for its players.
|
| Q. |
I am pretty busy – what if I can not volunteer? |
| A. |
As part of the registration form for each season, you can choose not to
volunteer by paying a $20.00 volunteer fee. If you do not pay this fee,
you will be assigned a two-hour work shift for that season (per player).
If you can not work the scheduled shift, you will need to get a
substitute for your shift. If you or your substitute does not work your
scheduled shift, you will be charged the $30.00 no show fee. This system
is not unusual and is used by other sports clubs in the area and even
the school system requires concession hours from its player’s families.
|
| Q. |
I am scheduled to work my shift today and I now have an emergency,
what should I do? |
| A. |
Contact the Director of Volunteers at
volunteers@johnstonsoccer.org The Director of
Volunteers can communicate this to the appropriate person that you will
not be able to show up for your shift. You may still be charged the no
show fee.
|
| Q. |
The weather outside is horrible and my son/daughter’s coach called
and cancelled the game. Am I still expected to work my shift today? |
| A. |
Yes. The only people who can cancel work shifts would be the Director of
Volunteers or the Director of Fields. If a shift is cancelled for
whatever reason –they will make every attempt to contact you by phone or
email. If in doubt – show up for your shift.
|
| Q. |
I am scheduled to work concessions today and I showed up at the
field. I don’t see anyone there, what do I do? |
| A. |
If you are expected to work concessions, you need to first make sure you
are at the right location, either the North Concession Stand or the
South Concession Stand. If you are at the right location make sure you
go into the concession stand. Even if there are no cars in the parking
lot, there may be staff working in the stand. If you go to the
Concession Stand and it is locked, wait 15 minute past your scheduled
start time. If no one shows up during this time, you may leave. Send an
email to
volunteers@johnstonsoccer.org
describing your situation.
|
| Q. |
How do I make sure that the Director of Volunteers knows that I
showed up for my scheduled shift? I do not want to get the No Show Fee. |
| A. |
Sign-in at the beginning of your shift. No matter what you are scheduled
there will be a sign in sheet provided for each volunteer to sign.
Please check with the coordinator of that location if you can not find
the sign in sheet. If you do not sign in, you may be charged the No Show
Fee.
|
| Q. |
What are the consequences of not showing up for my scheduled shift? |
| A. |
You will receive a bill for the no show charge. If this is not paid,
your player will not be allowed to register the next season. The club
will provide ample time to pay any no show fees. Again, this is common
practice among other organizations.
|
| Q. |
What types of volunteer work is available and can I request to work
certain duties and certain shifts? |
| A. |
Volunteers are used to mark fields, work concessions, assist with
traffic, perform general clean-up, work tournaments, assist with
registration and etc. If you know that you like to work concessions (for
example) and have not already been assigned a shift you can contact the
Director of Volunteers and request that you work that particular duty.
There is no guarantee that your request can be honored, but the Director
of Volunteers will make every attempt to honor your request.
|

| Q. |
Am I important to the club as a volunteer? |
| A. |

and your help as a volunteer reduces costs and enables the club to
better direct their dollars to our players. Thank you for your
contributions in the past and in the future. |
